When you think of reaching your “peak potential,” do you think about your career, financial, athletic, educational, or family success? Too often, we associate success with the idea that achieving our goals and building a life of meaning is the only way to reach our peak potential. Very rarely do we associate this term with our mental capabilities.

At Grey Matters of Carmel, we’re here to change the way you look and think about peak performance. Without reaching peak performance potential internally, you might struggle to reach peak performance physically. If you’re an athlete, you know this concept all too well – that your performance is just as much mental as it is physical. Here, we think of peak potential as your mind’s ability to reach a higher level of function that gives you clarity, daily productivity, and even motivation to reach all of your goals. When your brain is operating at its peak potential, you have greater control over other areas of your life. We accomplish this here in the clinic through neurofeedback training, but you can also practice reaching your peak potential through different efforts.

Make Time for Daily Gratitude

Reaching your peak potential mentally starts with recognizing all of the blessings and good things in your life that currently exist. While it’s important to have goals and to always strive for something greater, you must first acknowledge the things in your life that currently bring you joy. According to a Harvard positivity psychology research study, “gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.”

Taking the time to purposefully express daily gratitude in a journal or a note on your phone can also help rewire the neural pathways in your brain, leading you to a more optimistic outlook on life. With more optimism, you’re more likely to reach your peak potential and look for the opportunities that exist around you rather than the negativity that can cloud your judgment and outlook.

Acknowledge Your Talents

When you’re striving to reach peak mental potential, you can also take this exercise and make it part of your daily mindfulness practices. Outline what you’re good at and where your talents lie. Ask yourself:

  • What am I good at?
  • What am I most comfortable doing?
  • What do I enjoy doing the most?

By answering these simple questions, you can find joy and purpose in doing the things you’re good at doing. Not only does this boost your confidence, but it can also remind you that your talents are unique and that no one else can accomplish what you can. Like giving gratitude, this knowledge can help you reach your peak potential in areas of your life that bring you joy and happiness, which can then free your mind to take on new challenges and open you up to other opportunities that may help you reach your life goals.

Set High But Realistic Goals

Our brains need tasks and goals to work on, so setting some high yet realistic ones can help keep you focused. Whether it’s aiming for a new promotion at work, growing your business, or building a new home and all the steps you have to take to get there, having these high but attainable goals can help you reach your peak potential. To remind yourself of all the things you want to accomplish, write them down and keep them in a place you see daily, such as your computer desktop background or a note in your journal.

Choose the People Around You Carefully

The company you keep can significantly impact your outlook on life, attitude about specific topics, and overall mental stability. You know the saying: “If you’re the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room.” If you want to reach your peak potential, then surround yourself with people you can learn from. This might look like having lunch with different colleagues, visiting new countries or places, participating in new events, and listening to people from other cultures or upbringings. Those that challenge you play an instrumental role in helping you reach your peak potential.

Take Advantage of Neurofeedback Training

When you’re on the journey of reaching your peak mental potential, taking advantage of the neurofeedback training from Grey Matters is one of the best choices you can make. Your brain is like a garage, full of boxes from past traumas or memories. With neurofeedback training, we’re able to unpack or discard those boxes, finding mental and emotional healing from the events in life that are causing your ADD/ADHD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, or migraines. Through non-invasive training sessions, we can retrain your brain and create new neural pathways leading to healing and more mental clarity. With more clarity, we can help you reach your peak potential mentally so you can leave your sessions feeling empowered to reach your peak potential physically.

If you’re ready to take advantage of neurofeedback training and all that it has to offer, schedule your free brain map appointment with Grey Matters of Carmel online or give us a call at (317) 215-7208.
